When it comes to Stephen King stories, you’ve always got a very wide range of topics that this author covers. Sometimes he goes with personal stories of one character, other times he hands over a sprawling epic such as The Stand. He’s very talented, obviously, but when he’s at his best he gives you a heavy dose of genuine imagination right along with that ability to give you a solid scare at the same time. Lisey’s Story is both different for King and what he’s strongest at. You aren’t going to find a lot of real deviation from his strong points, but that is, in turn, the strongest aspect of this book.
In Lisey’s Story, King tells the story of a writer, but from the perspective of that writer’s wife – Lisey. We get a dose of what it’s like to live with an alleged creative genius and just how taxing that can be. It really is a touching tale of their romance and commitment to one another which makes the horrors that unfold that much more disturbing, however unlike some of the horror oriented stories out there, there’s a thread of real hope, devotion and courage that runs through this novel. You’ll find that if you give it a shot this is a book that’s story is going to stick with you as one of the better novels released in the last five years which is saying quite a bit since King himself has released a book or two in that time.
