Powering out of the Southern USA, Superjoint Ritual has been lauded as one of the staunchest defenders of the biker style metal fan credos. They serve it up raw and unfiltered, just the way both their punk and metal fans really like it. Lead singer Phil Anselmo unleashes a whole lot of vocal hell on Earth, with the band keeping much of that old school metal sound they are famous for in Pantera and their other side projects. It is definitely too short for an album by this band, but I have a feeling that would be my sentiment even if they’d released an 8 disc compilation. One can rarely get enough of this type of bloody knuckle, beat down type of music if it really is your thing.

One thing that seems to confuse fans is the fact that Anselmo himself comes from Pantera, along with some other band members and therefore they expect the album to sound like that band. Or maybe, Down or Viking Crown, two other bands Anselmo has fronted. This isn’t the case any more than it is reminiscent of Eyehategod just because Jimmy Bower plays in Superjoint Ritual. This is its own unique sound and if you get a listen first, keeping in mind that it is supposed to sound totally unique, then you really will see a lot of talent comes pouring through each of the songs on A Lethal Dose of American Hatred. It is definitely an album that is more than worth picking up if you’re a serious fan of the headbanger stuff.
